The Institute of Agricultural Facilities and Equipment devotes to solve problems in facility agricultural production. The Institute is dedicated to researching, integrating and promoting agricultural machinery, agronomic techniques as well as facility agricultural technlology and equipment.
Currently, there are four research laboratories for facilities and equipment, facility environmental engineering, agricultural materials, storage and preservation, engaged in the research on facility horticulture environment management and control technology, facility breeding environment management and control technology and equipment, facility planting mechanization technology and equipment, orchard management technology and equipment, bio-based high-value materials and intelligent agricultural sensors, agricultural cold chain logistics technology and equipment, etc.

Because of the inaccurate preservation technical parameters and the salient problems of energy-extensive equipment in cold-chain logistics of fresh agricultural products, phenomenons of “broken chain” and “non-cold-chain” are very common. Coupled with the diversity of fresh agricultural products and lacking of packaging materials, the loss rate of fresh agricultural post-harvest products has reached 20-30%, seriously affecting the healthy development of agriculture, farmers' enthusiasm for planting and the governance of the rural and urban environment. Based on the physiological characteristics of different fresh agricultural products, the team carries out basic applied research and non-profit general technology researches using the cutting-edge techniques of cold-chain logistics to meet market demand. While strengthening cooperation with enterprises, the team makes full use of technology, human resources, research platforms and other resources to promote scientific and technological innovation of enterprises and advance cold-chain facilities renovation, finally to strengthen cold-chain intelligent technology equipment application and improve cold-chain application mechanism.The goal of the team is to promote the upgrading of the preservation technology of agricultural cold-chain logistics, and to drive the high-quality development of related fruits, vegetables, aquatic products and other related industries.
Basic research: Establishment of environmental control theory and model for facility planting
Researches on temperature, light, water, air and exogenous substances in the the seedling stage in particular to solve the problems of low temperature, weak light and CO2 deficiency encountered in the winter and spring production; Clarify the regulation mechanism of crop demand and environment on crops, establish environment and facility crop growth models, and lay a solid theoretical foundation for further research and environmental regulation product development.
Applied research: Facility structure and intelligent Equipment R&D
Researches on facility structure and intelligent equipment to solve the problems of poor heat storage and thermal insulation performance, low production efficiency, and high energy consumption of traditional facilities; Establish a facility structure and supporting equipment system suitable for Jiangsu, with integrated techniques and products.
Extension: Photovoltaic agricultural planning and design; Extension of facilities and equipment
Planning and design of photovoltaic agriculture to solve the contradiction between photovoltaic power generation and agricultural production; Establishment of standardized full-chain facility agriculture system and extension of mechanized production model of green fruits and vegetables; With a focus on how to apply the research, facilities and equipment of environment regulation to agricultural production in a standardized manner; Optimization of facility structure and intelligent equipment according to industrial problems.
