To ensure the timely agriculture work in spring, JAAS scientists carried out field observations and provided expertise to farmers for strawberries, wheat, and greenhouse vegetables during the current epidemic.
JAAS Vice President Shen Jianxin, strawberry expert Prof. Zhao Mizhen and other scientists went to several strawberry companies, nurseries and plantation households in Lishui District to get the first-hand information of local strawberry production and on-line sales. The expert group answered in detail to the problems of strawberry gray mold and fertilization. They also suggested the farmers use the elevated cultivation methods and plant new elite varieties for off-peak marketing to increase income.
Qiu Yudong, Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission of JAAS, led an expert group including wheat expert Prof. Ma Hongxiang to Zhaoguan Village, Jiangdu City for wheat field observation. They proposed top dressing due to the frost damage to wheat caused by low temperature. They also taught the farmers about spring wheat cultivation management and disease prevention and control.
Wang Kehua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of JAAS, led vegetable expert Prof. Wang Weiming and other experts to Dingji Town, Huaiyin City to learn about local greenhouse vegetable production. The expert group went deep into the cucumber planting sheds to examine the current problems encountered in cucumber production, and proposed flexible seedbed management methods. The expert group also helped local governments actively connect logistics and processing companies to alleviate the poor sales of vegetables and reduce farmers' economic losses.
In this key moment for spring plowing, JAAS will continue to sent scientists and technicians to learn what the farmers need and help them overcome difficulties.
