National Research Center of Veterinary Biologicals Engineering and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the “Center” for short) was established based on Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JAAS) and Nanjing Tianbang Bio-industry Co., Ltd. and approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2007. It was accepted and put into operation in 2010. It is the first national engineering center in the field of veterinary biologicals and the first national center in the agriculture-related sector in Jiangsu Province. There are 181 staff members engaged in scientific and technological activities, including 68 with PhD degree, accounting for 38%.

Focusing on major demands, international frontiers and industry needs, the Center actively carries out generic, key technological research and develops important products. It has successfully explored the innovative paths of “Target focus”, “Technical innovation” and “Industrial application”, forming a development momentum with the sound cycle of technology, talents and economy. Since its establishment, it has obtained 102 national patents, including 84 invention patents; 2 National Class I New Veterinary Drug Registration Certificates, 1 Class II Certificate and 9 Class III Certificates. The research and development of animal cell self-suspension technology, antigen scale and high-efficiency purification, vaccine adjuvant engineering technology, live vaccine heat-resistance technology and multiple other independent intellectual property rights have reached international advanced and domestic leading level, with the achievements covering 28 provinces, cities and autonomous regions nationwide and top 20 enterprises in the industry. In 2014, it was jointly awarded the “National Advanced Group of Professional and Technical Talents” by the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2017, it held the 4th International Salon of Animal Vaccine and Immunoadjuvant Technology. Sixteen experts including four academicians Xia Xianzhu, Liu Xiufan, Zhang Gaiping, Jin Ningyi and other domestic and foreign scholars delivered keynote reports; a total of 408 representatives from 45 research institutes and 85 veterinary biologicals manufacturers nationwide attended the conference.
