Recently, Prof. Jiasui Zhan, from Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology in Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, was invited to visit the Institute of pomology. Qiao Yushan, deputy director of the Institute of Pomology, presided over the academic meeting.
Prof. Jiasui Zhan presented an academic talk entitled “Applying Darwinian Principles for Sustainable Plant Disease Management”. He expounded in a systematical way how the changes in the adaptive capacity of host plants, pathogens and environment affect the outbreak and epidemic of plant diseases under the background of global climate change, and intensive modern agricultural production. He also proposed how to collect data on the potential adaptation of plants and pathogen to climate change from the perspective of evolutionary ecology, and to organically integrate them into the disease early warning model to make disease prediction more accurate.
During the visit, Prof. Jiasui Zhan also had a guided tour to the demonstration bases and National Germplasm Repository for Peach and Strawberry in JAAS.
