In this golden autumn, the Institute of Vegetable Crops (IVC) ushered in its 40th anniversary of establishment. In October 15-20, five academic conferences were organized by IVC, including 2019 Academic Annual Meeting of Facility Horticulture Branch of Chinese Society for Horticultural Science, Annual Summary Meeting of National Key R & D Plan “Utilization Technology of Vegetable Heterosis and Creation of Strong Heterosis Hybrid”, Forum of Jiangsu Modern Vegetable Industry Development, Annual Meeting of Pepper Branch of Chinese Society for Horticultural Science and Annual Meeting of Jiangsu Vegetable Innovation Cooperation Group. Nearly 1,000 scientists from all over the country attended the above conferences.
On the morning of October 19, the opening ceremony of the Forum of Jiangsu Modern Vegetable Industry Development was held in JAAS. Some well-known experts attended the forum, including Zou Xuexiao, president of Hunan Agricultural University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhang Youjun, director of Vegetable and Flower Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Du Yongchen, president of Chinese Society for Horticultural Science, Sun Rifei, secretary-general of Chinese Society for Horticultural Science, Zhang Baoxi, president of the pepper branch of Chinese Society for Horticultural Science, Hou Xilin, Professor of Nanjing Agricultural University, Sun Hongwu, vice president of JAAS, Yu Wengui, former vice president of JAAS, etc. All employees, including the retired, have attended the forum.
The opening ceremony was hosted by He Xunhong, Secretary of CPC Party Committee of IVC. Sun Hongwu, vice president of JAAS, made a keynote speech. He stressed that a large number of excellent vegetable cultivars and efficient cultivation techniques were invented or created by generations of vegetable researchers of JAAS, and these achievements greatly promoted the development of vegetable industry in Jiangsu and even in the whole country. He hope that a more open, flexible, efficient collaborative innovation development mode will be formed in the next development stage of IVC.
Wang Weiming, director of IVC, reviewed the development and achievements of IVC. He looked forward to building a high-level, international, modern institute in the near future. Staff representatives shared their experiences through the development of IVC and jointly wished the IVC a better tomorrow!
In the summary speech, Du Yongchen highly appraised the brilliant achievements of IVC in the past 40 years. He also talked about the development direction of vegetable science and technology development in the future.
The forum was hosted by Vice President Sun Hongwu. Three experts, Zou Xuexiao, Sun Rifei and Hou Xilin, gave academic talks respectively on "The spread and industrial development of Capsicum in China", "The prospect of vegetable science and technology in China ", "New breeding technology and variety of non-heading Chinese cabbage". In the afternoon, the participants had a guided tour to the vegetable exhibition base in Guli, Nanjing.
