The 9th Academic Forum of Young Scholars in Agricultural Economics was successfully held at the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development

The 9th Academic Forum of Young Scholars in Agricultural Economics was successfully held at the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development (IEAD), on Dec 2nd. Dr. Haochi Zheng, an associate professor from Dept. of the Earth System Science at North Dakota University gave an academic report entitled “The ecological and economic implications of land use and management in the US Midwest”. Dr. Xiaolong Sun, shouldering as the secretary of the Youth League Branch of IAED, and more than 30 scholars and graduate students participated in the forum online. This forum was co-sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (72103081) and the 2022 International Cooperation Fund from Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences. 

Dr. Zheng elaborated on how to combine methods from environmental science with those from economics to evaluate relevant policies. Taking the Midwest of the US as an example, Dr. Zheng presented how to apply methods of local equilibrium and optimal solution using interdisciplinary research ideas to evaluate the ecological and economic benefits of land use management.

After the forum, Dr. Zheng participated in the special exchange seminar of the international cooperation project "Behavior Logic, Incentive Mechanism and Policy Simulation of Farmers' Organic Fertilizer Replacing Chemical Fertilizer". In which, the program collaborators combed the existing achievements and discussed about further cooperation directions.

This forum has positively guided the scientific and technological personnel in IAED to tightly track the frontiers of research disciplines, directly face academic problems, widely broaden academic horizons, and strengthen international cooperation and exchange.
