Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JAAS) is located at the southern foot of Zi-Jin Mountain in the beautiful eastern scenic area of Nanjing, Jiangsu. Its roots go back to 1932 when it was established as National Agriculture Experiment Institute by the central government. Later, it was renamed and re-affiliated several times; and eventually the name of JAAS has been used since 1977.
JAAS is one of the largest and earliest comprehensive agricultural/veterinary medicine research institutions in China. It is financed and directly administered by Jiangsu provincial government. Aiming at rural economy and technology development in Jiangsu andChina, the JAAS commitment, including basic and applied research, as well as the extension service, is to advance the production of food and fiber, to protect our natural resources, and to improve the quality of life of all Chinese people.
JAAS consists of 13 institutes (or departments) established by discipline on the main campus in Nanjing, and 10 off-campus regional institutes located in different agricultural areas all over the province. JAAS has a total of 2346 full time employees, including agriculture scientists and experts.
JAAS has extensive collaborative relationship with many domestic and international research institutions, universities, government agencies, commodity groups, and businesses, which significantly enhance the productivity and applicability of the scientific researches on and off campus.
