Shemer Topper of Agricultural Research Organization (ARO, Israel) visited JAAS

Mr. Shemer Topper, Director of food-technology's, processed-food and the plant-protection fields at "KIDUM" of Agricultural Research Organization (ARO, Israel) visited JAAS on Sep. 18, 2017. KIDUM is the Technology Transfer Organization of the ARO and is responsible for the IP registration and commercialization of research applications in Agriculture and for the establishment of partnerships, joint ventures and other business enterprises.

The visit was accompanied by representatives of LR Group(Israel) and chief of Nanjing Branch of China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC). JAAS Vice President Liu Xianjin chaired the reception. Chiefs of Department of International Cooperation, Institute of Plant Protection, Institute of Animal Science and Institute of Agricultural Resources and Environment of JAAS attended the meeting.

VP Liu extended warm welcome to the delegation and introduced JAAS achievements in recent years. He also expressed his wishes to carry out practical cooperation with ARO based on the MoU that was recently signed.

Mr. Shemer briefed the agricultural development in Israel as well as ARO history, mission, research results and technology transfer. He hoped to tighten the cooperation between JAAS and ARO, to share the research results, and to inject vigor to the agricultural development in both Jiangsu and Israel. Representatives of LR Group and chief of Nanjing Branch of China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) talked about Israel investment in China and China-Israel agriculture science and technology city in Luhe, Nanjing.

Both sides carried out in-depth discussions and reached initial cooperation agreements on the establishment of a joint agriculture research center, cooperative researches in precision agriculture and water saving agriculture, agricultural technology extension and transfer, post-doc program and other talent training programs. JAAS and ARO will also provide technical support to China-Israel agriculture science and technology city in Luhe.

For reference: Agricultural Research Organization(ARO) is the national agriculture academy directly affiliated to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Israel. The research work carried out by ARO takes up 65% of the entire country while the research staff covers 85%. Located at the Volcani Center campus in Bet-Dagan, near Tel-Aviv, ARO's six institutes are responsible for Plant Sciences, Animal Science, Plant Protection, Soil, Water and Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, and Postharvest and Food Sciences. ARO also operates four research stations, in various parts of the country, and serves as a testing center for agricultural produce and equipment. Israel's Gene Bank for Agricultural Crops is also located on the ARO Volcani Center campus. Israel is famous for water-saving agriculture(drip irrigation), precision agriculture, agricultural technology extension and transfer.

Witnessed by Jiangsu Vice Governor Yang Yue, JAAS President Yi Zhongyi signed the MoU with ARO on Sep.11, 2017, creating a new chapter for bilateral cooperation between Jiangsu and Israel.
