Mr. Pichet Grudloyma, director of Field and Renewable Energy Crops Research Institute of Department of Agriculture(DOA), Thailand, led a delegation of 4 scientists for an academic visit to JAAS on Sep. 11, 2017. JAAS Vice President Liu Xianjin chaired the reception. Chiefs of Department of International Cooperation, Institute of Food Crops and Tomorrow Seed Company attended the meeting.

During the meeting, both sides detailed their research areas and cooperation intents respectively. DOA scientists showed great interest in new varieties breeding, include maize, sweet potato, legumes, etc.. Deputy Director Yuan Jianhua of Institute of Food Crops and Prof. Xie Yizhi gave academic talks on latest maize and sweet potato researches of JAAS. Trade Manager Zhong Yongkun of Tomorrow Seed Company introduced the R&D achievement and overseas investment in Southeast Asia.

On the afternoon, the delegation discussed with JAAS scientists of the Institute of Industrial Crops. Both sides agreed on the proposal of setting up a joint legumes research base in Thailand. On Sep. 12, the delegation had a guided tour to the Experiment Station for Animal Science (JAAS).

During the visit, both sides reached agreements on exchange of researchers for short, medium and long term training, high-level mutual visits, cooperative R&D on maize, sweet potato, cotton, legumes crops including mung bean, soybean and peanut. To further implement the MOU of both sides and discussion results of the visit, VP Liu and Mr. Pichet also signed the Meeting Memo.

For reference: JAAS President Yi Zhongyi led a delegation to DOA, Thailand on Sep. 5, 2016. JAAS and DOA reached consensus on mutual visits, cooperative researches and signing of MoU for both sides. In March, 2017, the MoU was officially signed by both sides. All these efforts led to the current visit led by Mr. Pichet.
