An academic visit to JAAS by Dr. Il-Ryong Choi from International Rice Research Institute
At the invitation of the Institute of Plant Protection, Dr. Il-Ryong Choi, an expert on rice virus disease from International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Philippines paid an academic visit to JAAS.
During Aug 23 and Aug 24, Dr. Il-Ryong Choi visited the experimental field of RBSDV resistance identification test of IRRI rice varieties. After the filed observation, Dr. Choi had intensive discussions with plant virus and molecular plant pathology team about the project “The identification and functional analysis of genes associated with resistance to rice black streaked dwarf diseases”.
On Aug 25, Deputy Director Wang Ran of Department of International Cooperation met with Dr. Il-Ryong Choi and introduced international programs, including joint post-doc program and foreign expert recruitment program and relevant policies. Both sides expressed their desire to strengthen further cooperation between JAAS and IRRI.
Dr. Choi has been mainly engaged in identification and functional analysis of genes associated with resistance to rice virus diseases, resistance breeding application. He has published dozens of articles on high level journals, such as Plant Physiol and Mol Plant Microbe Interact. He is also the reviewer of some authorative journals, such as Nature Communication and PNAS.
