Prof. Wang Aiming of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada visited JAAS
On August 11th, Professor Wang Aiming from London Research and Development Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada was invited to JAAS. Director Chen Xin of the Institute of Industrial Crops chaired the reception.
Professor Wang is a senior research scientist at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and professor of Western University in Ontario. He has been mainly engaged on plant virus research and has published more than 60 papers in PNAS, PLoS Pathogens, PLos Genetics, Plant Physiology, Plant Cell, Journal of Virology, Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions and other international journals. He has also been awarded the highest honor of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the “Golden Harvest Award”, for his academic achievements.
During his visit, Professor Wang gave an academic talk entitled “Multifaceted Defense and Counter-Defense in Co-Evolutionary Arms Race between Plants and Viruses”. He found that Sumoylation of Turnip mosaic virus RNA polymerase promotes viral infection by counteracting the host NPR1-Mediated immune response and that the Potyvirus silencing suppressor protein VPg mediates degradation of SGS3 via ubiquitination and autophagy pathways. More than 40 JAAS researchers and students attended the seminar and discussed with Prof. Wang about their own research. The discussions shed light on future research and experimental methods.
After the meeting, Professor Wang, Director Chen Xin and Director Wang Ran of Department of International Cooperation, discussed the establishment of China-Canada joint research platform, multilateral cooperation and talent exchange.
