Launching Ceremony of Public Welfare and Industry Special Fund Project – Research and Demonstration of Animal Vaccines and Downstream Technology

The launching ceremony of Public Welfare and Industry Special Fund Project – Research and Demonstration of Animal Vaccines and Downstream Technology was held in Nanjing from February 22 to 24, 2013. JAAS Vice President Chang Youhong, Director Huang Jun of Research Management Division, and more than 70 representatives from relevant research fields and vaccine enterprises attended the meeting.
 

 
VP Chang first welcomed all the leaders, experts, and managers, and pointed out that this project was the second Public Welfare and Industry Special Fund Project of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of JAAS after “Research and Demonstration of the Comprehensive Immune Technology of Major Swine and Chicken Epidemics” in 2008. The research groups should have a full understanding of the long term and arduousness of the implementation of the project, and work together to provide technical support for the industry.

Project PI, Professor Hou Jibo elaborated the overall objective, research content, implementation plan, and evaluation index.

 

 
The representatives reported their sub-tasks and reviewed the management policies. In the discussion session, representatives from enterprises agreed that researches in key technologies, such as high-efficient production of antigen, and enrichment and purification, etc. played an important role in the promotion, upgrade and achievement application of animal vaccines and downstream technology and suggested that the research should be focused on the improvement of processing equipment and vaccine quality control and test technology.
 
During the meeting, “Veterinary Vaccine Production High-level Forum” was also held. Experts from American Society for PATH (Protection of Animals and Their Habitat) and other institutions gave academic presentations on vaccine production, isolation, purification, and quality control, etc..
