Prof. John Pasick of National Center for Foreign Animal Diseases, Canadian Food Inspection Agency was invited on an academic visit to JAAS from October 30 to November 3, 2012.
Prof. John Pasick gave two lectures on “New Diagnostic Approach to South American Swine Fever Epidemiology” and “Monitoring, Prevention and Control of Canadian Avian Influenza” on October 31, 2012. More than 60 scientists and graduate students of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine (IVM) attended the lecture, which was chaired by Director He Kongwang of IVM. Prof. John Pasick mainly introduced his research progress in South American swine fever epidemiological survey, the formation of ELISA approach, isolation and identification of new strains, etc..
After the meeting, JAAS Vice President Lu Xiaoxi met Prof. John Pasick and expressed her welcome to his visit.
On November 1, Prof. John Pasick had an in-depth discussion with IVM scientists on the status quo of the prevention and control of swine diseases and avian influenza in Canada, the establishment of new diagnostic approach, the virus isolation, identification, and evolutionary analysis, and the establishment of risk assessment and control system of infectious diseases. Both sides also discussed about their future cooperation.
During his visit, Prof. John Pasick also had a guided tour to the labs of IVM, National Engineering Center for Veterinary Bio-products, and Nanjing Tech-Bank Bio-industry Co., Ltd..
