Prof. Ivanek of Texas A&M University came on an academic visit to JAAS from November 13 to 18, 2012. Vice President Lu Xiaoxi, and Directors from the Foreign Affairs Office and the Institute of Veterinary Medicine (IVM) received her. VP Lu appointed Prof. Ivanek as the “adjunct professor” of JAAS.
Prof. Ivanek gave a lecture on “Mathematical modeling in epidemiology and evolutionary ecology of infectious agents: examples of Salmonella, Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Avian Influenza Viruses” on November 16, 2012. More than 60 scientists and graduate students of IVM attended the lecture.
At the beginning of the lecture, Director He Kongwang first briefed IVM. Then Prof. Ivanek introduced her research in the mathematical modeling in epidemiology and evolutionary ecology of infectious agents，i.e. how to use mathematical models and statistical softwares to study the mutual influence among host, pathogen, and environment, and to predict the trends of infectious diseases. After the lecture, both sides had a heated discussion on relevant researches and future cooperation in the research of animal epidemiology and animal health risk assessment.
