According to the Regulations on Major Crop Varieties and Technology Extension, the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA, P. R. China) announced 31 major maize varieties in 2014, scattered in four major maize producing areas. 11 new maize varieties in Huang-Huai-Hai region were listed, of which Suyu 29 was recommended.
Suyu 29 was developed by the Institute of Food Crops of JAAS, which passed the examination and approval of China, Anhui Province, and Jiangsu Province in 2010, 2012, and 2013. It is the second JAAS maize variety listed in the MoA announcement. Suyu 29 is characterized by its high yield, wide adaptability, and comprehensive resistance to diseases. It is suitable to be planted in Jiangsu and Anhui Provinces in spring and summer and in Jiangxi and Fujian Provinces in spring. Now it is soly developed by Jiangsu Ruihua Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd..
