Eight JAAS crop cultivars selected for large-area extension
According to the recommended crop cultivars lists recently issued by Jiangsu Agricultural Commission, 4 rice cultivars and 4 maize cultivars of the Institute of Food Crops of JAAS were selected as the main planting cultivars in Jiangsu for 2014 and 2015.
The four rice cultivars are suitable to be planted for different climates and regions in Jiangsu. To be more specific:
rice cultivar
 favorable areas
Nanjing 9108
central Jiangsu and hilly areas
Nanjing 5055
coastal areas and south Jiangsu
Nanjing 46
Southeast areas to the Taihu Lake
Nanjing 49
central Jiangsu and hilly areas
The recommended four maize cultivars consist of 2 common and 2 fresh edible maize varieties. The common cultivars Suyu 20 and Suyu 29 exhibit desirable performances in yield, adaptability and resistances to multiple diseases. They are adaptable in Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi and Fujian and have been listed as major extension cultivars by Jiangsu Agricultural Commission and even the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA, P. R. China) for several consecutive years. The fresh edible maize cultivars Sukehuanuo 2008 and Sukenuo 3 are purple-white waxy corns with good tastes. Sukenuo 3 is waxy corn with high sweetness (2-3 times higher than common waxy corns). Sukehuanuo 2008 is adaptable in South Jiangsu and Anhui, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan. Sukenuo 3 is widely acceptable in the whole Jiangsu Province, and has been selected the main extension cultivar in Jiangsu for several yeas.
The crop cultivars bred by the Institute of Food Crops are well received among the farmers and are thus widely extended in agricultural production. They have made active contributions to farmer income increase and agricultural development.
