JAAS Vice President Yu Wengui inspected protected vegetable production in Lianshui and Huai’an on May 4 and 5, 2014.
On May 4, VP Yu and other delegates first arrived at the modern agriculture park of Lianshui. Yu listened to the introduction of the park and local vegetable production, visited the demo station of protected vegetable cultivation, which was initiated by JAAS scientists. Yu also put forward his suggestions on the new vegetable varieties cultivation in the park. After that, the delegation made an academic visit to Yuansheng Horticulture Cooperative in Lianshui, and focused on the new cheery tomato varieties which were extended by JAAS and the new muskmelon and watermelon varieties by Huai’yin Institute of Agricultural Sciences(JAAS). They also gave their expertise on the growth and management of these vegetable varieties.
On May 5, the delegation visited Huai’an (Suzui) Modern Agriculture Park, especially the demo areas for Solanaceous fruits, melons astyle="font-size:13px;"nd broccolis. VP Yu talked about his experiences in relevant vegetable cultivation and industrial development. Local government officials accompanied the visit.
After the inspection, VP Yu spoke highly of the agricultural development of the two cities. He demanded that, not only the construction of demo parks should be strengthened, but also the training of extension professionals should be emphasized. In this way, the productivity of local agriculture will be guaranteed.
