Yan Shaohua, JAAS Secretary of CPC Party Committee, led a delegation to inspect agricultural technical extension in Xinyi, Jiangsu. Xinyi Mayor Wang Changzhang and other senior government officials accompanied the inspection.
The delegation first arrived at the cucumber greenhouses in Xin’an Town. In previous years, due to the poor ventilation and high humidity in the greenhouses, some vegetable diseases (downy mildew, Botrytis cinerea, Corynespora cassiicola and virus disease, etc.) broke out and severely damaged cucumber quality and yield. However, in the greenhouse the delegation visited, these diseases have been largely controlled. Thanks to the newly-developed botanical fungicide of JAAS, the cucumber diseases have been effectively controlled and the use of chemical pesticides has been significantly reduced. The new fungicide not only cuts down the residue risks of pesticides, but also saves the cultivation costs, thus increases farmer income.
After that, the delegation arrived at Shiji Town to examine the growth of Huaimi No.2 and the control results of watermelon Fusarium wilt diseases. Huaimi No.2 exhibits desirable performance in yield, taste and disease resistances and has been selected for large area extension. In the experiment, the watermelons have been planted in the functional matrix that can effectively prevent Fusarium wilt diseases.
The delegation also visited the demo areas for JAAS new peach variety Xiacui, and Yan promised that JAAS will coordinate with Xinyi City to host the coming peach festival.
