Seminar held to discuss the research progress of the JASTIF project “breeding and demonstration of elite rice varieties with high yield, good quality and multiple disease resistances”

 
A seminar was held to discuss the the research progress of the JASTIF (Jiangsu Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Fund) project “breeding and demonstration of elite rice varieties with high yield, good grain quality and multiple disease resistances” on December 30, 2013. The seminar aimed to enhance the communication between the membership units of the project and deploy the research tasks in the coming 2014. Prof. Wang Cailin, PI of the Project, together with 30 persons in charge of the membership units, attended the seminar.
 
During the seminar, the attendants discussed the achievements of the fruitful 2013: 1) R&D of a new rice cultivar Nanjing 9108, which was approved as a super rice variety with high yield potential; 2) construction of 65 demonstration stations for Nanjing 9108, covering an area of over 5 million mu for extension; 3) publication of 24 papers, SCI 11, EI 2; 4) application of 8 national invention patents and 1 utility model patents; with 4 national invention patents and 1 utility model patents obtained; 5) formulation of 3 local standards in Jiangsu Province; 6) application of 4 new variety protection rights.
 
The director of JAAS Research Management Division put forward specific requirements for project management, including a reasonable expenditure in strict accordance with the budget, timely submission of research logbook and collection of pictures, video and other relevant data information.
 
In the end, Prof. Wang Cailin emphasized that in the year of 2014, the key of the Project still lies in germplasm resources collection, utilization and demonstration of relevant cultivation techniques, technical extension and services.
