Prof. Zhang Hongbin of Texas A&M University made an academic visit to the Institute of Food Crops (IFC) of JAAS on September 13, 2013. He gave a lecture on Re-establishing Molecular Mechanisms of Genetics and Variation: the DNA “Jigsaw Puzzle” Structure Model. IFC Director Wang Cailin presided over the lecture.
Prof. Zhang Hongbin is now the director of Gene Resources Center of Texas A&M University, tenured professor of Genomics and Systems Biology.
Based on his pains-taking research on the major crops genomics including rice, cotton, soybean and maize, Prof. Zhang put forward a novel theory of DNA “Jigsaw Puzzle” Structure Model. During his lecture, Prof. Zhang elaborated on the genetic network and relevant coordination mechanisms. His lecture provided a different perspective in the nature of genes.
