Experts of National Agro-technology Extension Center and Jiangsu Agricultural Commission evaluated the yield for Nanjing 9108 in Gaowei (a 17-hectare demo) and Nanjing 5055 in Xinghua (a 17-hectare demo).
Complying with the regulations in “super rice identification” of Ministry of Agriculture (MoA, P.R.China), the experts chose 3 patches of land of different yield levels (high, medium and low) and carried out on-site yield test after mechanical harvest. After strict determination for area, moisture, impurities and with accurate yield calculation, the experts obtained the results: Nanjing 9108 yielded an average of 818.7 kilograms per mu and Nanjing 5055 yielded an average 836.2 kilograms per mu, up to the stipulated yields (780 kilograms per mu) for japonica rice varieties of the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River.
Both the two japonica rice varieties, Nanjing 9108 and 5055, boast the properties of good taste, strong resistances to diseases and high grain quality, high yield as well as high milled rice rate. Nanjing 9108 is suitable to be planted in central Jiangsu areas with soils of high fertility. Nanjing 5055 is suitable in the coastal and southern areas of Jiangsu. It is the second year that Nanjing 5055 passed the acceptance checks for super high-yield rice variety, with the yield of 816.3 kg per mu in 2012.
