On May 27, experts from Jiangsu Agriculture Commission made comprehensive evaluations on the research of cultivation techniques of wheat - rice rotation based on total straw application and entire mechanization accomplished by the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Environment of JAAS.
After field observation, the experts audited appraisal on R&D reports made by the Principal Investigator Prof. Yang Sijun. The experts were in unanimous agreement that the research successfully led to a new technology system incorporating straw laying, stubble cleaning, seed sowing and soil pressing. Combined by agricultural machinery and farming techniques, the new technology system tackled the difficulties in precise seeding and wholesome seedling with total straw application. The experts suggested accelerated extension of the research because of its broad extension prospects.
The research is jointly supported by grants of Jiangsu Agriculture Independent Innovation Fund and Jiangsu Special Funds for Three Undertakings in Rural Areas. After 7 years' experiment, Prof. Yang Sijun and his team members can now have a precise control over seed sowing, ensure the wholesome growth and ward off the negative impacts of spring draught on wheat production. At present, the research has achieved positive social impact and ecological benefits, including an extension area of 198, 000 mu in Jiangsu and an added value of 17,186,400 yuan.
The experts were from Jiangsu Agriculture Mechanization Bureau, Jiangsu Crop Cultivation Techniques Consultation Station, Nanjing Agriculture University, Yangzhou University and Lixiahe Agricultural Sciences Institute. The meeting was also joined by Deputy Director Zhang Jianyong of Jiangsu Agriculture Commission, JAAS Vice President Chang Youhong, Deputy Director Huan Honghua of JAAS Scientific Research Division, Deputy Mayor Yu Dexiang of Yangzhong City and other directors of relevant sectors.
