A delegation from National University of Singapore (NUS) visited JAAS

 

Prof. Xu Guoqin, senior scientist and director of Suzhou Research Institute of NUS, led a delegation of three experts to visit JAAS on the afternoon of July 13, 2011. They were invited to a seminar with JAAS experts in the fields of plant protection, food cops, food processing and safety.

 
JAAS President Yan Shaohua and Vice President Zhou Jiannong received the delegation and extended warm welcome to the visiting guests. They expressed their wishes to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with NUS on the occasion of the establishement of Suzhou Research Institute.
 
Experts of both sides carried out fruitful discussions in the areas of plant viruses, especially in the research trends of rice stripe virus, rice black-streaked dwarf disease and tomato yellow leaf curl virus disease, etc. They also exchanged views on food safety monitoring system, exploitation and utilization of high quality local cultivars and development of new functional food. The visit enhanced mutual understanding and met the expectations of both sides to carry out cooperation.
 
Prof. Wong Sek Man, member of the delegation and vice president of the School of Science of NUS, visited the Institute of Plant Protection of JAAS at the invitation of Prof. Zhou Yijun. He gave academic talks on “Investigating the importance of the β–annulus in Hibiscus chlorotic ringspot virus” and “Structure of Hibiscus latent Singapore virus determined by X-ray fiber diffraction” and “functional substitution of poly(a) tract in hibiscus latent singapore virus with tobacco mosiac virus pseudoknots” , and had an in-depth discussion with JAAS scientists and technicians.
