In this beautiful season of peach blossoms, Prof. Jiangquan, chief scientist of National Peach Industry & Technology system made an academic visit to Nanjing on April 8, 2011.
Accompanied by Prof. Yu Mingliang, director of the Institute of Horticulture of JAAS and head of the peach breeding laboratory of Peach Industry & Technology System, Prof. Ma Ruijuan, principal investigator of flower fruit management, Associate Prof. Zhu Hongfeng, head of Nanjing Experiment Station, Chief Jiang toured the peach germplasm nurseries located at JAAS. He showed a great interest in germplasm collection of JAAS, such as narrow leaved and column shaped peach trees and whose height between the dwarf peach trees and normal ones. He also made a close examination of the tree stems prone to gummosis.
During the seminar, Chief Jiang had a discussion with scientists in JAAS on special germplasm development and diverse breeding goals. He announced the key tasks of peach industry during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan and presented advices to relevant research groups, especially the young scientists, to broaden horizon and promote enthusiasm for research.
