Assoc Prof. Qiu Weigang from the City College of New York (CCNY) was invited to give a lecture on metagenome analysis of the Lyme disease pathogen in the Institute of Food Crops on July 12, 2011.
In his report, Assoc Prof. Qiu Weigang explained Lyme disease bacteria classification, strain selection, molecular diversity and evolution and selection mechanism by using bioinformatics tools to computationally and statistically test evolutionary hypotheses, which was elaborated in this lecture. He also detailed his research and progress in genome evolution and molecular diversity mechanism, i.e. negative frequency selection.
The lecture was chaired by Prof. Yuan Jianhua, deputy director of the Institute of Food Crops. Nearly 30 scientists and technicians, graduate students attended the lecture and held a heated discussion. As the most advanced research approach, bioinformatics, which was introduced in this lecture, broadened the horizon of the scientists and technicians and gave insight to their future research.
