2011 social practice activities for JAAS and NAU graduate students wrapped up

More than 40 graduate students from JAAS and Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU) completed their social practice activities during the summer break. Under the guidance of the intern teacher and with the theme of “serve the society and countryside with science and technology”, the students carried out one-week social practice activities in Pizhou, Jiangyan and Gaochun.

In Pizhou, the students visited the agricultural enterprises and surveyed the management mode of the poultry industry, especially chicken farming. They also toured the Taierzhuang Campaign Museum for patriotic education. In Jiangyan, they visited the Modern Agriculture Park and Efficient Ecological Village in Taixing, the edible fungi planting station and the Wetland Agriculture Demo Park in Jiangyan and the model village of socialist new countryside in Hehuang Village. In Gaochun, they toured Wujiazui Agriculture Science and Technology Park, Expo Park, tea garden and rice testing fields. They discussed the local agriculture development, ecological environment and existing problems and presented some constructive suggestions based on their research expertise and the local situations.

As the famous saying goes, the taste of the pudding is in the eating. The one-week long social practice not only provided the students with an opportunity to practice themselves and deepen their understanding of agriculture, farmers and the countryside, but also helped them to strengthen their sense of social mission and responsibility. JAAS Vice President Chang Youhong and NAU Deputy Secretary Hua Yachun of CPC Party Committee spoke highly of the activity, encouraged the students to go down to the grass-roots units and connect theory with practice and therefore to make due contributions to agriculture, farmers and the countryside.
