The signing ceremony of Zhen Rice 461 variety right transfer between Jiangsu Tomorrow Seed Company and Zhenjiang Institute of Agriculture was held at Jiangsu Tomorrow Seed Technology Company on December 7, 2010. It is a new round of cooperation between between both signatories. Developed by Zhenjiang Institute of Agriculture, Zhen Rice 461 is a new variety of Japonica rice of high grain quality and late maturity. In the regional tests in 2007 and 2008, the average yield per mu is 636.59 kilograms, 7.63% higher than Huai Rice 9. In the regional test in 2010, Zhen Rice 461 exhibited desirable resistance to rice stripe virus, rice blast and bacterial blight. It has high and stable yield, lodging resistance and broad extension prospects.
Zhenjiang Institute of Agriculture and Jiangsu Tomorrow Seed Company have been developed in close cooperation for years. With their joint efforts, hybrid rice varieties, such as II 084 and II 042, were bred by Zhenjiang Institute, and their planting area have been substantially expanded after the variety right transfer. The cooperation has achieved great economic benefitas as well as social impacts, which marked a good beginning for cooperation between enterprises and research institutions and laid a solid foundation for further collaboration.
President Yan Shaohua, Vice President Yu Wengui, Deputy Director of the Division of Intellectual Property Rights Zhang Chuxian, Director of Zhenjiang Institute of Agriculture Zhuang Yiqing, Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhenjiang Institute Pan Yueping, General Manager of Jiangsu Tomorrow Seed Technology Company Yin Jianxun and other relevant directors attended the signing ceremony. President Yan Shaohua extended congratulations and spoke highly of the both sides' cooperation in crop varietiy development and extension. He hoped that both sides could consolidate research experience, analyze new situation and take new measures to achieve greater success in seed market competition. He also referred to this cooperation as a new chapter for cooperation between research institutions and enterprises. Representatives of both sides, General Manager Yin Jianxun and Director Zhuang Yiqing signed the agreement in the ceremony, which opened a new page of mutual cooperation in crop varieties.
