- Launching Ceremony of Public Welfare and Industry Special Fund Project--Research and Demonstration of the Integrated Control Techniques of Virus Diseases Transmitted by Laodelphax Striatellus Held at JAAS
The launching ceremony of public welfare and industry special fund project --Research and Demonstration of the Integrated Control Techniques of Virus Diseases Transmitted by Laodelphax Striatellus was held at JAAS on December 11, 2010.Directors from the Bureau of Science and Education of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bureau of Planting Industry, National Extension Center of Agriculture Technologies, Jiangsu Agriculture Committee, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences(JAAS) and experts from the participating units attended the launching ceremony, with a total of more than 60 attendants.
At the beginning of the ceremony, President Yan Shaohua of JAAS introduced to the directors and experts the background of project orientation and the brief introduction of the research center of plant diseases of the Institute of Plant Protection. He also pledged to keep project running smoothly.Zhang Guoliang, director of the Enterprise Administration Office of the Bureau of Science and Education of the Ministry of Agriculture, introduced the project priority, research tasks and administration requirements of industry special fund projects. Director Zhang pointed out in particular that the focus of an industry special fund project should be solving a key problem in a particular linkage in agriculture development. He demanded that the industry special fund projects should closely relate with modern agriculture industry system and provide support for industry development. He also hoped that the relevant institutions could establish a cooperation platform through the projects.Wang Jianqiang, deputy director of the Plant Protection Division of the Planting Industry Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, explained in detail the threat of the virus diseases transmitted by laodelphax striatellus on agriculture development in China. Black-streaked dwarf virus from southern regions, in particular, has now enormous impact on large rice-growing areas south of Yangtze River.Deputy Director Zhang Jianyong of Jiangsu Committee of Agriculture introduced the prominent achievements of the research and control techniques of rice stripe disease in Jiangsu in the past few years. Zhang held that the project, Research and Demonstration of the Integrated Control Techniques of Virus Diseases Transmitted by laodelphax striatellus, had clear focal points and strong pertinence, with special significance for the safe production of rice and corn in Jiangsu. Jiangsu Committee of Agriculture will strengthen connection with institutions carrying out industry special fund projects and effectively remove the threat of virus diseases transmitted by laodelphax striatellus in Jiangsu.The principal Investigator of the project, Prof. Zhou Yijun of the Institute of Plant Protection of JAAS made a detailed report about the research goals , research tasks and implementation plans. He also made overall arrangements for the distribution of work and pledged on behalf of the research team a full success of the project. Expert of project execution, Prof. Chen Jianping of Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, extended his congratulations on the project approval, his support to Prof. Zhou Yijun for the project execution as well as his offer of help in the project coordination.As the biggest user of agriculture techniques, Director Zhong Tianrun of National Extension Center of Agriculture Technologies maintained that they would keep in close cooperation relationship with the relevant institutions and send the project results to the production fields through technology extension, to make sure that research results can bring benefits to farmers in real terms. Experts of all the participating institutions expressed in agreement that they should strengthen cooperation, tackle key problems in the research and demonstration of the integrated control techniques of virus diseases transmitted by laodelphax striatellus so that science and technology can make real contributions to rapid increase of crop yield and farmer income .
