2010 Academic Activity Month and the Third Session of the Eighth Conference of Jiangsu Atomic Energy Society Held in JAAS

 
The academic forum of the Extension of Low Carbon Agriculture and the 3rd Session of the 8th Conference of Jiangsu Atomic Energy Association were held in JAAS from December 24 to 25, 2010.
 
Dr. Yan Jianmin, director of the Institute of Atomic Energy and chairman of Jiangsu Atomic Energy Association, presided over the forum. More than 50 scientists attended the forum, including Prof. Chen Xiulan, secretary of CPC of Lixiahe Agricultural Sciences Institute and vice-chairman of Jiangsu Atomic Energy Association, Prof. Lu Zhaoxin, dean of School of Food Sciences of Nanjing Agriculture University, Prof. Luo Shishi, head of the Teaching and Research Division of the School of  Biotechnology of Yangzhou University and vice-chairman of Jiangsu Atomic Energy Association as well as other representatives from relevant universities and scientific research institutions.
 
The academic forum adopted the forms of special reports and research progress exchanges. To answer the frontier academic questions in nuclear agricultural sciences in Jiangsu, the academic forum is held to show the latest developments of the extension of nuclear technology in high-efficiency and low-carbon agriculture. Institutions that undertake national public welfare grants of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, PR. China) were invited to the forum. Prof. He Zhentian of Lixiahe Agricultural Sciences Institute, Prof. Zhao Yongfu of Jiangsu Ruidisheng Technology Company, Prof. Zhu Jiayan of the Institute of Atomic Energy, Prof. Wang Zegang of Yangzhou University made informative reports. The reports covered the research areas such as rice and wheat, flower radiation breeding, isotope tracer technique, farm product development, quality control for radiation processing, identification technologies for irradiated food, irradiation industry and so on. The inspirational and insightful speech topics were praised by all the attendants.
 
After the academic forum, Jiangsu Atomic Energy Association held conferences to summarize the work, reported the budgetary situation in 2010 and discussed work plans in 2011. The scientists had an in-depth discussion about the existing problems and how to implement sustainable development in Jiangsu and China. Constructive suggestions for further development of the association were put forward.
