The experts from Jiangsu Agriculture Committee made comprehensive evaluations on the research of cyanobacteria control and utilization at Wuxi Weiqiong Farm Engineering Site on March 10, 2010. Cyanobacteria control and utilization is jointly supported by grants of National Development Programs and National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Jiangsu Agriculture Committee Vice Director Zhang Jianyong chaired the evaluation meeting. The experts audited appraisal on R&D reports made by the Principal Investigator Prof. Yan Shaohua. After discussion and examination, the experts spoke highly of this research and suggested extension of this project.
At present, the project includes 5,000 m3 wet fermentation and 6,000 m3 dry fermentation in the Taihu Lake Region. This project gained the significant environmental and economic benefits. Annual treatment of cyanobacteria amounts to 500,000 tons. The electricity generated by methane (by-products) is about 6,000,000 kilowatts. The fertilizer (by-products) utilization area totals over 1,000 hectares.
