Since 2009, the leaders of Jiangsu government, including Secretary of CPC (Communist Party of China) Jiangsu Provincial Committee Liang Baohua, Governor Luo Zhijun, Deputy Governors Huang Lixin and Cao Weixing, have inspected JAAS. They spoke highly of JAAS’s efforts and achievements and hope to further increase the effectiveness of JAAS independent innovation programs.
Secretary of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee Liang Baohua, Standing Member of Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of Nanjing Municipal Government Zhu Shanlu, Standing Member of Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Government Li Yunfeng, Mayor of Nanjing Municipal Government Jiang Hongkun, and chief officials from the provincial and municipal sectors made an academic visit to Lishui Plant Sciences Station (LPSS) of JAAS on the afternoon of February 17, 2009.
Secretary Liang Baohua listened to the work reports by JAAS President Yan Shaohua on the construction of LPSS, and inspected the strawberry greenhouse for the new varieties. Secretary Liang appreciated JASS’s endeavors to construct LPSS, enhance the agricultural science and technology innovation capacity and serve Jiangsu agriculture and farmers as effectively as possible.
Secretary Liang proposed that LPSS should play multiple roles. As an experiment station, it should firstly serve as a research platform for scientific and technological innovations; it should demonstrate in the second place the innovative planting and management techniques for the farmers; it should thirdly provide the farmers with high quality seeds and help farmers overcome poverty as well as achieve prosperity and lastly as a seedling planting base. He stressed that LPSS should serve regional agricultural economics and Jiangsu Province as a whole. He hoped the scientists and technicians in JAAS to learn from Mr. Zhao Yefu who had dedicated himself to working for and with farmers and benefiting the farmers. JAAS should commit itself to raising the income levels of farmers with the aid of science and technology extensions.
