Institute of Atomic Energy Utilization in Agriculture Undertakes International Cooperation Project from IAEA

Institute of Atomic Energy Utilization in Agriculture of JAAS undertakes a project from IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) (MOR/1006V). IAEA has established some technology cooperation projects for promoting the application of nuclear technology in agriculture, especially in developing countries. Through these projects, nations around the world can communicate more effectively on nuclear technology and related research fields.

The institute invited Dr. Boughaleb from Morocco for technology exchange from May 3 to 14, 2010. He is the director of Tangier agriculture research center in Morocco, in charge of scientific research, technology transfer and irradiation facilities.

Dr. Boughaleb and scientists of JAAS discussed about dosimetry, dose measurement and commercialization of spices/medicinal plants for irradiation. Dr. Boughaleb gave a brief introduction of the irradiation technology in Morocco. After discussion, both sides reached a consensus about IAEA project application and cooperation.

During Dr. Boughaleb's stay in China, the staff of Institute of Atomic Energy Utilization in Agriculture accompanied him to visit electron accelerator irradiation facilities in Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
