The Symposium on the 12th Five-Year Development Plan was held in the Institute of Food Crops (IFC) on January 22. The all academic committee and the scientists in the institute attended the symposium.
Dr. Wang Cailin, director of IFC, chaired the symposium at which the general plan for the next five years (2011-2015) was discussed. PIs of the teams that respectively conduct research on three-line hybrid rice breeding, conventional rice breeding, two-line hybrid rice breeding, maize breeding and sweet potato breeding and directors of the center for germplasm protection and utilization and the sub-center for DUS test were fully prepared and reported the overall outline on development plan which was formed on the basis of discussions and extensive consultations. Members of the academic committee had in-depth and detailed discussions with the scientists concerning issues relevant to team building, talents training, infrastructure construction, earning grants and producing research achievements.
Dr. Wang summarized at the symposium that IFC had fully accomplished the tasks set in the 11th Five-Year Plan period, achieved remarkable successes and paved the way for the sustained development in the 12th Five-Year Plan period. And he added that the 12th Five-Year development plan served as the guideline for IFC in the next five years and with constructive discussions and scientific planning the institute should strive to enhance its research capabilities in the 12th Five-Year Plan period.
