To meet the requirements proposed by Chinese President Hu Jingtao for Jiangsu "to first realize agricultural modernization" revealed in the two sessions of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and National People's Congress (NPC) this year, further enhance the integration, visibility and influence of the achievements in innovative agricultural research, guide and support the provincial agricultural development, JAAS held a cooperation meeting with delegates from 33 modern agricultural zones ( MAZs ) within Jiangsu province. Mr. Zhou Jiantao, director of the Department of Extension Services, presided at the meeting. Mr. Huan Honghua, deputy director of the Department of Research Management, first briefed the delegates on the special funds for agricultural innovation (SFAI) in Jiangsu and the construction of core demonstration stations. Then Mr. Shao Mingcan, deputy director of the Department of Extension Services, introduced JAAS to the delegates, who later had conducted constructive discussions about the cooperation with JAAS.
As a concrete measure aiming to explore new cooperation forms and realize the "win-win cooperation and common development", the meeting marks the launching of a new round of cooperation between JAAS and MAZs. By making full use of SFAI and MAZs, both parties will strive to demonstrate new varieties produced in programs sponsored by SFAI, popularize new technologies, train a number of professional farmers and promote industries with unique characteristics. Moreover, they will make joint efforts to turn the 33 MAZs into bellwethers of agricultural modernization in Jiangsu and bases for supplying high quality breeds and cultivars, exporting technologies and training skilled farmers, and thus make their due contribution to the initial realization of agricultural modernization in Jiangsu. The delegates reached a unanimous decision that they should seize the opportunity to substantially meet President Hu's requirements and make a good start for the Twelfth Five-Year Plan.
