The symposium was held to promote saline agriculture programs in Yanjiang Agricultural Sciences Institute from March 4 to 5, 2011. JAAS Vice President Chang Youhong attended the symposium and made important speeches. More than 20 chiefs and scientists from both the main campus institutes and regional institutes attended the symposium.
Establishing and consolidating researches on saline agriculture caters to the needs of national development strategy in Jiangsu coastal area exploitation and helps JAAS to accelerate research transition, strengthen innovation and technology extension.
A research group should be built with the help of saline agriculture research team and a test station should also be established with the support from Jiangsu Provincial Engineering Research Center, proposed by JAAS Vice President Chang Youhong, who called for an innovative workforce and infrastructure construction as soon as possible. President Chang suggested that the saline agriculture program drafts should be based on the expertise of relevant scientists and further improved. He also hoped the program leaders to make full use of the grants from Jiangsu Agriculture Support Programs and Independent Innovation Fund and to integrate the socio-technological resources in and outside JAAS. The program research teams are expected to make breakthroughs in vegetables, oil crops, industrial crops and other innovative researches in two or three years, which will play a key role in supporting the saline agriculture industry.
Centering on saline agriculture programs from 2011 to 2012 and considering the current situation of saline agriculture research, the experts of all institutes had a discussion and presented their suggestions for the acceleration of saline agriculture research. During the break of the symposium, the attendants had a guided tour to Dafeng Jinhai Farm of Yanhai Agricultural Sciences Institute.
