- Workshop on quick testing of rice black-streaked dwarf virus
The workshop on quick testing of rice black-streaked dwarf virus in South China, hosted by the execution units of the Public Welfare and Industry Special Fund Project--Research and Demonstration of the Integrated Control Techniques of Virus Diseases Transmitted by Laodelphax Striatellus, was held in Zhejiang University from April 6 to 7, 2012. The workshop aims to implement the NO.1 Document of the Central Government, to make preparations for spring ploughing and sowing and to control relevant rice diseases. 44 attendees from nationwide agro-technology extension stations, plant protection stations and National Rice Industrial Technology System joined the workshop. Director Liu Fangcai of Testing Division of National Agro-technology Extension Center introduced the occurrence and forecasting of rice black-streaked dwarf virus in South China. Assoc. Prof. Wu Jianxiang of Zhejiang University explained in detail the on-site testing kits developed by Zhejiang University. The trainees practiced the kits by themselves to test rice black-streaked dwarf virus and found the kits are convenient and quick, with high throughput, specificity and accuracy, and therefore, suitable for extension in first-line production units. The experts held discussions on the existing problems and solutions in the prediction and monitoring of the virus. Prof. Zhou Xueping of Zhejiang University lectured on the Occurrence and Control of Rice Diseases in China. Prof. Zhou Yijun, PI of the project, spoke highly of the workshop and held exchanges with the trainees on the pre-caution measures. The workshop brings the significance in rice diseases control and in the promotion of accurate testing of rice black-streaked dwarf virus in South China.
