A symposium on strengthening agriculture and enriching farmers was held by Agriculture Consulting Team (ACT) in Tongxiang, Zhejiang on April 6, 2012. JAAS Vice President Zheng Jianchu, Vice President Zhang Mingsheng from Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (ZAAS) and Vice President Gu Xiaojun from Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) as well as other directors attended this meeting.
Under the guiding principles “three academies for one delta, every academy for three provinces”, the agricultural research and technical services in Yangtze River Delta have made significant progresses. During the symposium, the three academies made separate work reports, discussed agriculture-related hot topics and exchanged their research experiences in technical services for the past ten years. JAAS Vice President Zheng Jianchu pointed that, the extension of technical services should include fixed talent groups, financial support, service base and target farmers.
The symposium coincided with the Fourth Shimenwan Pear Blossom Festival in Tongxiang. "The blossom brings the cooperation together” has become a hot spot point during the Festival. In the opening ceremony for the Festival, the thousand-mu pear orchard in Shimenwan was awarded the plate for the Agricultural Research and Demo Station of ACT. Technical extension specialists answered the questions raised by the farmers on cultivation, harvesting and trimming. The latest agricultural innovations were also on exhibition.
