The JAAS Open Days, hosted by JAAS and Yangtze Evening, was held on April 14, 2012. Nearly 500 citizens registered on the website and visited JAAS, to experience modern agriculture and new technology innovations. This year is the 80th anniversary of JAAS and the activity aims to propagate JAAS research to Nanjing citizens. JAAS President Yan Shaohua, Vice President Lu Xiaoxi placed great emphasis on the activity and proposed close cooperation between the divisions and institutes. Vice President Zheng Jianchu attended the JAAS open days in person and talked with citizens on JAAS recent achievements. The activity received warm welcome among the citizens. On the morning, they were guided to National Peach Germplasm Nursery of JAAS to appreciate the peach blossoms. Ornamental peach varieties such as "Pink Lady", "chrysanthemum peach" attracted the citizens to take photos. After that, they came to JAAS Expo and took part in the interaction activities. They leant the methods to use nutritive bowl for cotton and experienced the pleasure to be cotton farmers. The ever-green pteridophytes, which do not need much sunshine, aroused the citizens’ curiosity, especially the funny-looking potted-plants, such as drymotaenium miyoshianum, etc. The first worldwide eQS agro-products safety monitoring system, established by JAAS, showed the detail information on manufacturing processes, including production, processing and delivery. In the tasting area, the citizens tasted Nanjing 46, purple sweet potato noodles, blueberry wine, fried fruit chips, Ningyu strawberries, Suzhong pork and other innovation varieties. They spoke highly of the samples and hoped to buy the products in the market.
JAAS will have another Open Day in September before its 80th anniversary.
