The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA, P. R. China) held the launching ceremony for the laboratories of quality & safety risk assessment for agro-products on March 23, 2012. The Institute of Food Safety and Monitoring of JAAS and other 64 institutions have been authorized by MoA and awarded the plagues, which indicates that the agro-product safety researches of JAAS have obtained the recognition. The Lab is also another major platform to the Institute of Food Safety and Monitoring after the Key Laboratories for Food Safety in 2011.
Safety risk assessment for agro-products is fundamental to food safety, which has been emphasized by No. 1 Central Government Document. The Ministry of Agriculture will establish an agro-products safety risk assessment center of the state level and 65 key laboratories of quality & safety risk assessment for agro-products scattered in the whole country during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan Period. Laboratories with cutting-edge equipment, facilities and research capabilities will be built and all the major food crops will be included in the risk assessment. The Institute of Food Safety and Monitoring will make full use of the opportunity and enhance discipline construction in food safety.
