A jointing research and collaboration consortium established between MSU (Mississippi State University) and JAAS

 
A high-level delegation from Mississippi State University (MSU) headed by Dr. Jerry Gilbert, Executive Vice President of MSU visited JAAS from March 22 to 24, 2012. The delegation also included Dr. Gregory Bohach, Vice President for Agriculture, Forestry & Veterinary Medicine, Dr. David Shaw, Vice President for Research & Economic Development, Dr. Benjy Mikel, Vice President Assistant and Executive Director of MSU International Institute, Dr. Kent Hoblet, Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Roger King, Director of the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems. JAAS President Yan Shaohua, Vice Presidents Lu Xiaoxi and Chang Youhong and other chiefs attended the ceremony for reception and signing of MSU/USA-JAAS/CHINA Jointing Research and Collaboration Consortium.
 

 
JAAS President Yan Shaohua addressed the opening session of the ceremony: “This is a good opportunity to strengthen an already-vibrant cooperation built on mutual benefits between MSU and JAAS. One of the strongest links is centered on the integration of agricultural research and extension, which will be further strengthened with the signing of our Research and Collaboration Consortium.”
 


Established in 1878, Mississippi State University is located in the growing agricultural-commercial-industrial town of Starkville. Mississippi State University is a comprehensive and public university incorporating education, research and extension. MSU ranks 60th among public universities for research and development expenditures; 6th in agricultural sciences; 35th in engineering research.
 


During the ceremony, Dr. Jerry Gilbert, Executive Vice President of MSU and Prof. Chang Youhong, Vice President of JAAS signing the agreement for establishing MSU/USA-JAAS/CHINA Jointing Research and Collaboration Consortium. The signature was followed by another ceremony for unveiling the plate for the Consortium by Dr. Jerry Gilbert and JAAS President Yan Shaohua.
 


After the ceremony and with the company of JAAS VP Lu Xiaoxi, the delegation had a guided tour to the Institute of Food Safety and Monitoring, the germplasm center of the Institute of Food Crops, National Engineering Center for Veterinary Bio-products, Lishui Plant Sciences Station and Nanjing Tech-Bank Bio-Industry Corporation. 
 


Jiangsu Provincial Government paid special attention to the visit and Vice Governor Cao Weixing met the guests in person. Both sides held friendly talks and expressed their wishes to strengthen cooperation. Dr. Jerry Gilbert said that it was a great honor to establish cooperative relationship with the research institutions in Jiangsu and wished that the bilateral cooperation would make great contribution to sustainable economic development in the two countries.
 


Accompanied by Vice President Lu Xiaoxi, the delegation also visited Lixiahe Institute of Agricultural Sciences (one of the off-campus institutes of JAAS at Yangzhou City) on March 24.
 
The high-level visit will surely play an important role in the establishment of mutual sustainable cooperation mechanism and in the all-round cooperation between MSU and JAAS.
