Dr. Andreas Jacobi, wheat breeding scientist of Strube Research GmbH & Co. made an academic visit to JAAS from March 16 to 19, 2012. His visit was an implementation of the cooperative project “wheat breeding with sharp eyespot resistance” between Ministry of Science and Technology (P.R. China) and Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF, Germany).
Scientists of both sides reported their research progresses in wheat sharp eyespot identification and germplasm innovation, and visited the introduced wheat germplasm nursery of the Institute of Food Crops and wheat sharp eyespot disease nursery of the Institute of Plant Protection. The scientists also made preliminary identification and selection of the introduced germpalsm from Germany in adaptability and disease resistances and discussed the cooperation on talent training and wheat doubled haploid breeding. During the visit, JAAS Vice President Lu Xiaoxi listened to the report of the bilateral cooperation and awarded the certificate of JAAS visiting scholar to Dr. Andreas Jacobi.

Germany wheat breeding expert delegation visited JAAS
To implement the cooperative project "BLSB (banded leaf and sheath blight)-Resistant Wheat Breeding with Chinese and Germany Germplasm" between German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Ministry of Science and Technology of P. R. China, Dr. Andreas Jacobi of a German agriculture research company led a delegation of 3 experts for an academic visit to JAAS from May 15 to 20, 2011.
During the visit, the two sides exchanged views on the research in wheat stem and root diseases and their control and discussed the approaches to further cooperation. JAAS Deputy Secretary Lu Xiaoxi of CPC (Communist Party of China) Party Committee listened to the work reports from both sides on wheat breeding cooperation. The visiting delegation made separate tests of BLSB-resistance and comprehensive selections for quality characters of the latest hybrid wheat varieties in the Institute of Food Crops, the Institute of Plant Protection, the Institute of Biotechnology and Xuzhou Agricultural Sciences Institute of JAAS. After that, the experts also had a guided tour to JAAS wheat germplasm nursery and Luhe Animal Sciences Station (LASS).
