Prof. Bai Xianjin, chief agronomist of Department of Agriculture of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and other 17 scientists and directors visited JAAS on July 18, 2012.
The delegation had a guided tour to the peach germplasm nursery and tasted the new peach varieties such as Xiacui, Xiahui 6, Yinhe, etc. They spoke highly of the flavor of prunus persica compressa varitey Jinxia. The planting of UFO peaches and prunus persica compressa has the environmental limitations because of the high precipitation amount in most parts of Guangxi, while the peach varieties Xiacui, LS21-3, etc. with high fruit firmness are more suitable for mountainous areas of Guangxi. In the suburbs, some varieties with low fruit firmness, such as Xiahui 6, Yinhe, and prunus persica compressa varitey Jinxia, could be reasonably planted. Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is located in Southwestern China, where low temperature is relatively rare in winter, so to seek peach varieties with low chilling requirement is one of the important tasks of this visit.
