Funing County and JAAS Jointly Constructed Eco-swine R & D Center

On July 27, Funing County and JAAS jointly unveiled the plate for the eco-swine research & development center in Funing. The center is aiming to support the eco-swine industry of Funing and accelerate the technological progress, transfer, and upgrade. JAAS President Yan Shaohua, Vice President Zhou Jiannong, Funing Magistrate Gu Yunling, Deputy CPC Secretary Xu Huaming, Deputy Magistrate Zhu Ling, and directors and scientists from relevant divisions and institutes attended the meeting.

JAAS boasts competence in livestock research for years and has carried out researches in large scale farming, facility livestock, safe livestock production technology, and established modern environment-friendly livestock production technology system with efficient utilization of agricultural resources. In 2012, the Institute of Animal Science initiated the project “Research and Demonstration of Key Large-scale Eco-Production Technology of Swine”, which was supported by Jiangsu Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Fund. The project makes breakthrough in the researches of matrix composition, microbial ferment system, comprehensive emission reduction technology, ferment bed management technology, integrated epidemic prevention and control technology system, and efficient and safe utilization technology of ferment bed wastes.

Funing County is famous for its eco-swine industry, with a ferment bed area of 0.71 million m² and 1 million heads of swine per year. The establishment of Funing Eco-swine R & D Center was one of the examples of the technological innovation of JAAS, and an exploration of serving agriculture in the county level. JAAS will consider Funing County as its key test demo station and will send scientists there to carry out researches in large-scale production technology of eco-swine. Meanwhile, the scientists will go to the production front for existing problems and demonstrate latest research results to accelerate the development of eco-swine industry.
