To activate academic atmosphere, strengthen academic exchanges, and promote design-inspired innovation among young scientists, the Institute of Food Crops (IFC) held a meeting for oversea returnee reports on August 3.
Deputy Director Yuan Jianhua chaired the meeting, and 3 returnees (Mr. Yang Jie, Mr. Wu Jizhong, Mr. Li Huayong) reported their study experience and research progresses abroad.
Mr. Yang Jie introduced his improvement in English proficiency, major courses, scientific research and the latest progress of rice epigenetics during his one-year study in Mississippi State University, USA.
Mr. Wu Jizhong reported the progress of the international cooperative project “BLSB (banded leaf and sheath blight)-Resistant Wheat Breeding with Chinese and Germany Germplasm” with German Strube Research GmbH & Co. KG.
Mr. Li Huayong shared his experience in attending the 34th session of International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) - Technical Working Party on Automation and Computer Programs (TWC). Over 60 scientists of IFC and graduate students attended the meeting. They had an in-depth exchange with the three presenters. Director Wang Cailin of IFC encouraged young scientists to seize the opportunity to study abroad, broaden their horizons, and improve their own competitiveness.
