JAAS sees new cooperation with the University of Nottingham (U.K) on joint postdoc training program after signed a comprehensive cooperation in 2011. At the end of the 2011, JAAS and the University of Nottingham reached a consensus that they would cooperate in training post-doctoral candidates in three research areas: bio-genetic breeding, application of biotechnology in vegetable breeding, and animal breeding. Each candidate will be co-mentored by two supervisors, one from JAAS, the other from the University of Nottingham. Dr. Zhao Han from Institute of Biotechnology, Dr. Yang Xinping from Institute of Vegetable Crops, and Dr. Shi Zhendan from Institute of Animal Science of JAAS, together with Dr. Lu-Chungui, Dr. Rumiana Ray, Dr. George Mann from the School of Biosciences of UNUK, will supervise three post-doctors to carry out researches in the above three areas. According to the research program, the post-doctors will go to UNUK for a two-year study.
There were 21 PhDs from the University of Leiden, China Agricultural University, Peking University, Chongqing University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Institute of Vegetation, etc. who had submitted the postdoctoral application since the announcement of the recruitment. Finally, nine candidates passed the qualification examination.
JAAS and UNUK organized three post-doctoral video interviews, which were chaired by Prof. Lu Xiaoxi, Vice President of JAAS, and the judges were Prof. Charlie Hodgman from the School of Biosciences of UNUK, other six supervisors from both sides, experts from relevant departments.
After the interview, both sides agreed on three post-doctoral candidates, two of whom had doctoral study experience at Purdue University and Washington State University.
The cooperation between JAAS and UNUK effectively improves the quantity and quality of post-doctoral candidates, which, in the meantime, explores new ways of identifying and developing more excellent high-level talents and extending international scientific and technological innovation and cooperation.
