English Oratory Competition held at JAAS

 
The English Oratory Contest of the young scientists was held at JAAS on May, 24, 2012, which was a part of 2012 JAAS English Festival. 17 contestants made wonderful speeches and more than 130 young scientists and technicians watched the contest.
 
 
After deliberate consideration and careful arrangements, the 2012 JAAS English Festival included English Movies, Speech Contest, Gets-Together with Oversea Students and English Lectures. The festival aims to stimulate the enthusiasm among the young scientists to learn English and improve their capabilities for international communication. The English Oratory Contest received active response among the young scientists. 26 candidates enrolled and 17 of them entered the final competition.
 
 
The contest included three parts, namely, English oratory, guess what and impromptu performance. The impromptu performance requires not only language proficiency, but also flexibility and wisdom from the contestants. The wonderful speeches and performances elicited continuous applause among the audience. There were also interactive games for the audience, for example, puzzles, abbreviations, etc. The participants enjoyed the pleasure in learning English, and at the same time realized that learning a foreign language can be interesting, stimulating and fun. After fierce competition, Contestant Xiong Qiyan from the Institute of Veterinary Medicine won the first prize.
