The kick-off meeting of the project Major Rice Pests and Diseases Prevention and Control Technology Research and Integrated Demonstration was held in Nanjing on July 7, 2012. This project is supported by the grant from the 12th Five-Year National Key Technology Research and Development Program and chaired by JAAS. Directors and over thirty experts from the Science and Education Department of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA, P. R. China), the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center (NATESC), Sun Yat-Sen University, China Agricultural University, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (ZAAS) and JAAS attended the meeting.
The project leader, Prof. Guo Huifang from the Institute of Plant Protection of JAAS, gave a detailed report on the project abstract. She pointed out the content and objective of the project: to study the occurrence rules and prevention and control techniques of major rice pests and diseases; to research, develop, improve and propose new biocontrol, ecological control, and chemical pesticide technologies in line with food security and ecological security requirements; to establish and promote non-polluting integrative prevention and control technology system. She also deployed the tasks the project and expressed the determination to make every effort to achieve the successful completion of the project.
All the attended experts reached an agreement on the cooperation to resolve key technological problems of the project and to truly increase farmers’ income.
