The 9th National Brassicaceous Vegetable Symposium, hosted by Chinese Society of Cruciferous Vegetables, undertaken by the Institute of Vegetable Crops of JAAS and Jiangshu Seeds and Seeding Company and coordinated by Nanjing Institute of Vegetables and Flowers, was held in JAAS from November 11 to 14, 2011. The symposium aimed to promote communications of the latest research in brassicaceous vegetables and understand the planting performance and suitability of brassicaceous vegetables from different regions of China.

More than 260 representatives attended this meeting. The meeting reports covered the advanced research progress and industry development in germplasm resource, genetic breeding, biology technology, cultivation, plant protection, post-harvest physiology, distribution, etc.

After meeting, all the representatives visited the exhibition of new vegetable varieties in Luhe Animal Sciences Station of JAAS. The varieties included the 184 kinds of different vegetables from 31 units over the country. Although the early growth period of brassicaceous encountered the flood damage, the improved variety supported by JASTIF (Jiangsu Agriculture Science and Technology Innovation Fund) grows well. It contributes to the hard work of staff in brassicaceous group from the Institute of Vegetable Crops. This group carried out the research on cold resistance and male sterility of cabbage, humidity resistance and club root of pakchoi cabbage, and they also bred many popular varieties, such as Chunfeng007, Chunmian and Sugan No.8, which got the third class of Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Progress Prize. Through the symposium, the future direction and cooperation of brassicaceous vegetable have been established.
