The 13th Jiangsu International Agriculture Exposition had its grand opening on September 23, 2011 in Yangzhou, Jiangsu. The exhibition theme of JAAS this year was "agriculture innovation and extension". 210 high quality agriculture products of 17 categories were exhibited and praised by Huang Lixin, standing member of Jiangsu Committee of Communist Party of China and vice governor of Jiangsu province. The visitors to the expo showed great interest in JAAS products, which displayed the latest research results of JAAS innovation and specialties of the off-campus institutes. Traditional crop grains and processed farm products with high quality were on display and for taste, including rice variety Nanjing 46, biscuit wheat variety Ningmai 13, fresh-eatable waxy corn Sukenuo 3, sweet potatoes with purple flesh, watermelons, bitter gourds, pumpkins, onions with fruit flavor, Chinese orchids and aquatic flowers.
Accompanied by Vice Presidents Zhao Xihua and Chang Youhong, Vice Governor Huang Lixin visited JAAS exhibition booth, listened to the introductions of the latest research of Chinese orchid breeding of Yangzhou Institute of Agricultural Sciences and inquired in detail about the extension prospects of the huge watermelons (about 50 kilograms) and aquatic flowers. She showed great interest in the new bitter gourd varieties bred by Huaiyin Institute of Agricultural Sciences. Supported by Jiangsu Agriculture Science and Technology Innovation Fund (JASTIF), the scientists and technicians of Huaiyin Institute of Agricultural Sciences have successfully bred 3 bitter gourd varieties with slight bitterness and over 10 bitter varieties with different shapes. After the visit, Vice Governor Huang and other directors spoke highly of JAAS agriculture researches, especially in efficiency agriculture and specialty varieties.
Enterprises and visitors at home and abroad were attracted by JAAS exhibits. Not only the exhibits were tasted and sold out, but also the 500 brochures of JAAS innovation results were given out to the visitors at their requests. Some enterprises and organizations expressed their intents for cooperation.
