JAAS vaccine research and integrated control techniques of mycoplasma pneumonia of swine won China Agricultural Science & Technology Prize (First Class)
The Fourth China Agricultural Science & Technology Prize for the year 2010 and 2011 announced the recipients on October 11, 2011. After a series of evaluation and defense, the project “vaccine research and integrated control techniques of mycoplasma pneumonia of swine” completed by Prof. Shao Guoqing and other scientists of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of JAAS won the first prize for scientific research.

China Agricultural Science & Technology Prize, sponsored by MoA (Ministry of Agriculture) and MoST (Ministry of Science and Technology), mainly awards those institutions and individuals with outstanding contributions in agricultural science and technology. The Fourth China Agricultural Science & Technology Prize offers 118 prizes, with 21 first-class, 31 second-class, 47 third-class prizes for scientific research, 9 prizes for technology extension and 10 prizes for excellent research groups.

The prevention and control of mycoplasma pneumonia of swine has long been considered the main difficulty in veterinary. On the basis of the first attenuated strain of mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in vitro, which was bred by senior scientists of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine (IVM) with cell-free culture technology, IVM scientists have successfully created and invented the attenuated mycoplasma hyopneumoniae vaccine (168 strain) and the engineering technology for large-scale production. An integrated control system of mycoplasma pneumonia, has been established. The system centers on vaccination and at the same time combines procedural&pulse medication treatment and dynamic monitoring&control.
